Home Energy Performance Score Stakeholder Panel to hold first meeting on October 27

SALEM — A Home Energy Performance Score Stakeholder Panel will meet for the first time on Monday, October 27 in Portland. The public meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Market Center Building (1600 SW 4th Ave.).

The panel was created after recent House Bill 2801 (2013) rulemaking on home energy performance scores conducted by the Oregon Department of Energy. Several participants in that effort expressed interest to work collaboratively toward greater market standardization.

A home energy performance score provides information about a home’s energy efficiency and energy use. This information may be useful to prospective home buyers seeking energy efficient homes and to homeowners considering energy efficiency improvements. Home energy performance score systems that meet Oregon’s requirements provide reliable and consistent information to home buyers and homeowners. Currently, the following three home energy performance score systems can be used in Oregon through 2015:

1. Energy Trust of Oregon EPS®; 2. U.S. Department of Energy Home Energy Score; and 3. Residential Energy Services Network Home Energy Rating System.

Ultimately, the stakeholder panel will recommend to the department’s director which home energy performance score systems to approve for use in Oregon beyond 2015.
