Grounded Episode 2: The Atomic Man
Our latest Grounded podcast episode features ODOE Assistant Director for Nuclear Safety Ken Niles, and focuses on the history of the Hanford Nuclear Site in south central Washington.
For more than 40 years, the federal government produced plutonium for America's nuclear weapons program at Hanford. The focus has since shifted to waste cleanup - but before plutonium production ended in the late 1980s, Hanford played an important role in America's history.
In what will be a multi-part series on Hanford, Ken begins by sharing the history of the site - and of the tens of thousands of Americans who worked there.
